Hi, I'm Laura, the face behind BrownOwl Education.

At BrownOwl we believe that fun and creativity must be at the heart of learning,
particularly when learning a second language.

I have had the privilege of successfully teaching English to hundreds of young learners over a number of years, across the globe. What greater joy is there than to pass on the skill of communication and self-expression in a second language? I believe I am truly blessed.

As a creative person, trained and practising as an artist, as well as teaching, I have a playful, fun, open, intuitive and calm teaching style. This approach has allowed me to truly connect, individually, with my students, and tap into their own unique learning style, reaping fantastic rewards.

As a successful teacher of English, I now have many more students that I can teach.
When you find something good you want to share it, right?
This is exactly what happened.

As a tutor, mentor, guide, It is important for me to reach as many young learners as I can
during my time here on this beautiful little spinning planet of ours.

For this reason I have recently taken the steps to create a signature course
and a membership.

This first, signature course I have created is a comprehensive phonics course.
This has been a true labour of love.

So, why did I choose to create a phonics course as my signature course?
Once a child has a basic spoken level of English, and they have learnt the English alphabet,
the next, MOST IMPORTANT, step is  learning to decode.

I see time and time again children learning to read in English by rote. A disastrous strategy when learning to read and write in English. Truly.

Did you know there are around 170,000 words in the English language?
What kind of memory do you need to memorise every single one of those words? Gosh.
That's a whole lot of stress right there.

With phonics, there are 44 phonetic sounds.

Imagine the insight this simple maths gives.

That's why I dedicated my time to creating a complete, phonics course as my first course.

Phonics = magic.
